The sky was partly cloudy across southern New England at 4 am. Most of the
clouds were across the higher terrain of southern NH and north central MA.
there was also some mid and high level clouds across portions of southern RI
and southeast MA, including Cape Cod and the islands. Temperatures at 4 am
were relatively warm, compared to the past several nights anyway, with
readings generally between 10 and 20°. Wind chills ranged from around zero
into the single digits above zero. Dry and cold weather will remain entrenched
across southern New England through today. The cause of this persistent cold
air is a nearly stationary low pressure across eastern Canada, and a strong
dome of high pressure building slowly across the upper midwest. This will
yield temperatures remaining below normal both by day and night through
Saturday morning.
