Strong winds and very cold temperatures from the arctic, more reminiscent of
mid winter rather than early March, will be the rule across the region today.
Skies will be mostly sunny, but even the strong March sun will not help
temperatures rebound. Daytime highs will struggle to reach the teens, with
some single digits across southern New Hampshire and maybe close to 20 on the
outer Cape and Nantucket. There could be a few isolated brief snow showers on
the outer Cape and Nantucket as the very cold air passes over the relatively
warmer waters of Cape Cod bay and Nantucket sound. Winds will diminish
tonight, but it will remain bitterly under clear moonlit skies. Some record
lows could be set tonight. Overnight lows will range from 4 to 8° below zero
over southwest New Hampshire to the lower to mid teens on outer Cape Cod and
Nantucket. High pressure will remain across the region on Wednesday, but it
will remain cold for this time of year. Highs will be milder than today,
topping off in the teens and 20s.
