Early morning temperatures were well above normal for the first week in January. Readings ranged from the upper 20s to the mid 30s across portions of the interior, to the 40s across the coastal plain. Winds were from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph. A strong high pressure system off the mid Atlantic coast will continue to pump unseasonably mild air into southern New England through the weekend. For today, partly sunny skies are expected with just some high clouds. High temperatures should climb well up into the 50s across most locations. Clouds will be on the increase tonight. Low temperatures will be well above normal and range from the 30s across the distant interior, to the 40s elsewhere. Mostly cloudy skies are on tap for Friday. A low pressure system lifting towards the Great Lakes will allow for scattered rain showers to develop. The rain showers are expected to become more numerous during the afternoon. Despite the clouds and rain showers, high temperatures are expected to climb well into the 50s. Numerous rain showers are expected Friday night. Some of the rain showers will be locally heavy and may result in typical poor drainage street flooding, but no major problems are expected. Southwest winds will keep overnight lows 25 to 30° above normal. Lows should only fall into the mid 40s, to the lower 50s. Rain showers should come to an end Saturday morning. Skies should become partly sunny during the afternoon along and northwest of a Boston to Providence line. Clouds may hang tough to the southeast of this region, but a few peaks of sun are possible across these locations as well. Record breaking high temperatures in the lower to mid 60s are expected across most locations, although it will be a few degrees cooler on the immediate south coast, Cape and islands. A Pacific cold front will move through the region Saturday night, with perhaps an isolated shower or two. Although it will turn cooler, temperatures will remain significantly above normal for this time of year. Lows should fall into the 30s and lower 40s. Partly to mostly sunny skies are expected Sunday as highs top out in the upper 40s to lower 50s. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were clear.
