Temperatures at 6 am ranged from near 10° across northwest Massachusetts and southwest New Hampshire to near 30° on Cape Cod. High pressure will bring a mostly sunny day today although high clouds will be increasing from west to east later in the afternoon. Highs will range from the upper 30s to lower 40s. An intense low pressure system will be moving into the Great Lakes tonight while a secondary low develops over the middle Atlantic region. This new low will intensify as it tracks across southern New England during Friday afternoon. A mixed bag of wintery precipitation is expected tonight into Friday afternoon. Snow or mixed precipitation will quickly change to rain near the coast after midnight, with snow mixing with or changing to sleet and freezing rain in the interior late tonight into Friday. An eventual change to rain is expected for all but southern New Hampshire on Friday. Significant snow accumulations are possible across far northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Heavy rainfall is likely across Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts Friday morning with areas of urban and poor drainage flooding possible.
