Some patchy fog lingered early this morning in a few spots, with dense fog along parts of the south coast. The fog will lift quickly around sunrise as west-southwest winds pick up. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny this morning. Clouds attempting to make it over the Berkshires were drying up as winds flowed down the Berkshires into the Connecticut valley. The sunshine will allow temperatures to warm to the mid and upper 60s, a welcome change from the past few days. However, early this afternoon, a band of thick cloudiness associated with an approaching cold front will move swiftly from northwest to southeast across southern New England. There is also a 50-60 percent chance of showers for a few hours in this band, which will exit Cape Cod and the islands early this evening. Southwest to west winds will reach 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph at times this afternoon and early evening. Skies will rapidly clear early tonight and temperatures will plummet into the 20s northwest Massachusetts and southwest New Hampshire and 30s elsewhere in northern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and central and eastern Massachusetts. A sunny day is forecast for Wednesday with high temperatures generally around 60. A weak cold front with low pressure passing to our south could touch off a few showers Thursday into Thursday night, mainly over the southeast half of southern New England. Then, a strong high pressure system settling into the northeast states promises to bring dry and seasonable weather Friday through next weekend. && === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 10:54 AM EDT was: === The skies were mostly clear.
