Most areas even across New Hampshire only saw enough rain to barely wet the ground, as heavier rain remained back over New York state and Vermont over the last 24 hours. Western areas of Maine were only seeing a few sprinkles as of late Sunday. Farthest eastern Maine in fact was still seeing some sun. Readings reached the 60s again in eastern Maine Sunday, but for most of us highs never got past the 40s, except in areas near the cloud line in eastern Maine, where the mercury reached or slightly exceeded 50. The low and its associated frontal system responsible for the rain, was being held at bay by a ridge of high pressure still over New Brunswick Canada, and extending well into the Atlantic ocean, Sunday afternoon. Our area of rain is going to take its time spreading northeast over the rest of Maine today and tonight. Eventually we will be seeing rain across entire region, with as much as an inch or so expected before it all gets swept away by a stronger low which will move through southern Canada on Tuesday. A strong cold front extending off that low will move across our neck of the woods late Tuesday. The clouds and rain will continue overnight, making conditions a little on the raw side. Lows are forecast to back down into the 30s just about everywhere before daylight returns Sunday morning. Much the same is expected Monday, with highs again mildest in northeastern areas of Maine. The rain will finally reach downeast Maine Monday, equalizing temperatures throughout our region. Expect highs ranging from the mid to upper 40 to the lower and mid 50s. As the cold front sweeps through our area Tuesday all the rain will come to an end, and as colder air enters the area, expect to see scattered snow showers, most likely in the mountains, but valley locations are not going to be completely immune from this possibility. Cool temperatures will persist the rest of the week as high pressure brings nicer weather for the last part of our workweek. In fact that high is likely to keep control of our weather right into next weekend. === The weather observed at WHITEFIELD, NH at 06:52 PM EDT was: === The weather reported was light rain.
