North to northeast winds were also beginning to pick up along the coast. At 5 am, temperatures ranged from 43° in both Keene and Jaffrey New Hampshire to 52° in downtown Hartford. Southern New England is stuck between two competing weather systems through most of the week. First, high pressure will continue to strengthen over Maine and the Canadian Maritimes into the western Atlantic. Then, low pressure will intensify off the mid Atlantic coast. As the low tries to move northeast, it will actually loop back toward the coast well south of Nantucket. This will bring the area of rain into the east coast this afternoon, then will push into the remainder of the region tonight and continue through most of Wednesday. Northeast winds will also continue to increase, especially over Cape Cod, Nantucket and Marthas Vineyard. Wind advisories are in effect for the Cape and islands for this afternoon and early tonight. The low off the coast will eventually weaken, but the high will hang tough over the western Atlantic. Cloudy skies with periods of rain and drizzle will continue into late this week. Then, another weather front will try to approach from the west Thursday night and Friday, but will stall west of the region as low pressure forms on this front. This means inclement weather is expected into the upcoming weekend. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 08:54 AM EDT was: === The skies were clear. The prevailing visibility was 10 miles.
