Temperatures at dawn ranged from the upper 40s in some of the countryside to the 50s elsewhere and even lower 60s near Fitchburg and Worcester. A few sprinkles occurred in southwest New Hampshire. Patchy mid level clouds will quickly move away and dissipate just after daybreak. The bulk of the day will be sunny with early summerlike temperatures, about 15° warmer than normal. Highs will be within a few degrees of 80 except near 70 south coastal islands and outer Cape. High clouds may streak across the sky during mid and late afternoon. Tonight should see a band of showers invade the southeast New England coast near or after midnight. Elsewhere, a cloudy period is expected. Lows will be from the mid 40s to mid 50s. It will turn a bit cooler over the weekend and of the two weekend days, Sunday promises to be the nicer for outdoor activity but Saturday may also be agreeable. The uncertainty Saturday has to do with the proximity of a cold front to the southern New England coast and a developing area of low pressure on that front. The band of showers expected during the predawn hours Saturday is currently forecast to sweep out to sea around daybreak. However there is a low probability option for the occurrence of lingering and more widespread showers than currently forecast. Highs on Saturday should be in the mid 60s to mid 70s. Sunday for sure is going to be a very fine day but cooler with highs mostly in the 60s. It may be frosty in the countryside Monday morning before attention turns to a developing low pressure system along the mid Atlantic coast. On the weather map, a weak cool front crossing the southern New England coast will stall this afternoon awaiting the development of low pressure tonight. The low should move off to the northeast of New England Saturday and pull the cold front offshore. Dry high pressure will follow Sunday into early Monday. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 08:54 AM EDT was: === The skies were clear. The prevailing visibility was 10 miles.
