This latest surge of arctic air brought record cold to several cities in southern New England this morning, including Boston, Providence and Worcester. Temperatures were around zero near the coast and around 10 below zero across the interior at 5 am. The arctic air was also fueling ocean effect snow squalls on the outer portion of Cape Cod. Temperatures will begin to recover today as the heart of the cold air pushes out of New England. Afternoon temperatures should top out in the teens at most locations, and readings tonight are expected to remain steady or fall just a few degrees. High pressure will build over the region Saturday, helping temperatures get back to around 30° in the afternoon. Low pressure is expected to track across northern New England Sunday, bringing a period of snow to most of the region Sunday afternoon and evening. Colder air will once again follow behind a cold front Sunday night and Monday, but it will not as nearly as cold as the past couple of days. === === === ORH Terminal Aerodrome Forecast issued 16-Jan-2004 06:22 EST === 7am: 30015g25kt P6sm Sct025 9am: 30022g35kt P6sm Sct045 5pm: 29020g30kt P6sm Skc
