Strong low pressure northeast of Newfoundland combined with high pressure over Ontario, continues to funnel unusually frigid air southward into New England. Temperatures during the predawn hours include 3° at Boston, 8 at Providence, minus 2 at Worcester, 6 at Hartford and minus 4 at Manchester New Hampshire. Despite partly to mostly sunny skies this afternoon, temperatures will only rise into the single digits across the higher terrain, with teens elsewhere. These frigid temperatures today combined with a brisk north to northwest wind will yield dangerously cold wind chills of around minus 20. Another very cold night is expected Saturday with record low temperatures likely. By Sunday, the Canadian high will slip southward to the mid Atlantic states, easing the cold and wind conditions. Later Sunday into Monday, warmer air aloft will overspread the region, yielding a period of snow Sunday night into Monday, along with some snow accumulation possible. Temperatures Monday may approach the freezing mark, however it will be short lived as another surge of arctic air arrives in the northeast later Tuesday. This reinforcement of arctic air may be accompanied by snow squalls Tuesday afternoon. === The weather observed at WORCESTER, MA at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were clear.
