Skies dawned clear across southern New England early this morning. It was a
chilly morning, with 5 am readings in the teens, except around 20 on the
islands. Cold and blustery conditions will be the rule across the region
today. There will be a chance of afternoon snow showers, mainly from the
Merrimack Valley and Boston to Willimantic and Hartford. Temperatures will
struggle to reach the 20s. Arctic air and windy conditions will invade
southern New England behind this cold front tonight. Overnight lows will drop
into the single digits inland, with a few readings below zero, to the teens
along the coast. Wind chill readings will be from 10 to 15 below. This bitter
cold air will remain across the area through the upcoming weekend.
