From the Connecticut valley through central Massachusetts into southern New Hampshire, temperatures at 5 am were around 30°, ranging to the upper 30s on Cape Cod and the islands. The mixture of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain will continue today as low pressure pushes east off the New Jersey coast. The precipitation will end as light snow over western areas this afternoon. Temperatures will not rise much, with readings from the upper 20s over southern New Hampshire to the upper 30s along the south coast. Cold high pressure will push into the northeast tonight. Any leftover rain and snow will end this evening over eastern areas. Seasonable temperatures will return, with overnight lows ranging from the upper teens over southern New Hampshire through higher terrain of central and western Massachusetts to around 30 on the Cape and islands. The high pressure will remain across New England through the work week, except for another cold front pushing through on Wednesday which will bring snow showers. This will usher in arctic air with temperatures tumbling and blustery northwest winds for Wednesday night. Overnight lows Wednesday will drop to the single digits inland, with a few readings below zero, to the teens along the coast. This bitter cold air will remain across the area through the upcoming weekend. === ORH Terminal Aerodrome Forecast issued 5-Jan-2004 07:58 EST === 8am: 06008kt 1sm -fzra Br Ovc002; Tempo 8-12pm: 5sm -fzra Br Ovc010 12pm: 05012kt 2sm -fzrapl Br Ovc005 5pm: 02010kt 5sm Br Ovc010 11pm: 33008kt P6sm Ovc030 2am: 31010kt P6sm Sct030 Sct120
