Diminishing winds were allowing early morning temperatures to fall steadily toward the single numbers in the mountains, and through the 20s toward the teens elsewhere. A ridge of high pressure extends south from Quebec, through central New York, and south along the Appalachian chain. West of the Great Lakes lies a region of generally low pressure. Steering currents in the upper atmosphere will be mostly west to east through the end of the week. The ridge of high pressure will build east across New Hampshire and western Maine today, and offshore. The first of several low pressure systems will spread flurries through the region tonight as it moves through, its center and main focus well to the south. More low pressure systems will pass through the region, almost on a daily basis, to finish out the week with several periods of precipitation. A warming trend will gradually change the form of the precipitation to mostly rain by the end of the week. === The weather observed at WHITEFIELD, NH at 07:52 AM EST was: === The skies were clear.
