High pressure centered over New Brunswick was providing dry and seasonably cold weather across southern New England during the predawn hours. Temperatures were generally in the lower 30s throughout the region. Meanwhile, low pressure developing over Tennessee will track northeast today to a position just off the southern New Jersey coast by evening. Its precipitation shield will overspread southern New England this afternoon from west to east. The precipitation will take the form of snow across southwest New Hampshire along with western and central Massachusetts. Snow accumulations will mainly be confined to the grassy and other colder surfaces, with snowfall amounts ranging from around 2 inches in the valleys, to 3 to 5 inches across the higher terrain. Farther south, look for a mixture of rain and snow from Hartford to northern Rhode Island, extending northeast to the western and northern suburbs of Boston. Mainly rain will fall along coastal Rhode Island and Massachusetts. As the low tracks south of New England tonight and exits into the Atlantic, the precipitation will taper off. Sunshine and mild weather will return Thursday as winds shift to the southwest, however the spring like conditions will be short lived. An arctic front will sweep across southern New England late Thursday night, with unseasonably cold and blustery weather Friday, with temperatures struggling to reach the freezing mark. === The weather observed at WORCESTER at 07:54 AM EST was: === The skies were clear.
