Temperatures ranged from 25 to 30 degrees were the wind was calm, mainly in valleys and over more rural locations, to as high as the upper 30s where a light wind persisted overnight and in the larger cities. The weather map this morning showed a low pressure over eastern New York. Another low pressure was developing south of Long Island. High pressure dominated the weather over the central United States. The low pressure south of Long Island is expected to intensify rapidly today and tonight. As it does, colder air will arrive from the north. Rain will develop during this morning, possibly starting as snow at higher elevations, and mix with snow during the afternoon. All precipitation should be snow by this evening, and end from west to east overnight. Winds will increase this afternoon and tonight. Winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected over western Massachusetts, with winds of 35 to 45 mph over Cape Cod and the islands. Most of the snow should fall from central Massachusetts north into southern New Hampshire, and east toward Boston. Snowfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected by Monday morning. The heaviest snowfall, 3 to 6 inches, is anticipated to occur over interior northeast Massachusetts into hillsborough county New Hampshire by Monday morning. Snow showers are expected to linger over Cape Cod and the islands Monday morning. Conditions will be windy and cold Monday afternoon. Winds will start to diminish diminish Monday as the low pressure departs for the north Atlantic.
