To: wist@magpie.com Subject: weird conversation... Date: Wed, 01 Dec 1999 02:12:19 -0500 From: gayathri I was getting into one of the secured buildings on lab today, when I noticed a guard had this red bag that said Ducati on it... conversationally, I ask, "hey, you go to the long beach bike show?" and he says, "yea... " looks at me closely and says, "HEY! you're the woman on the big gold triumph, right?" and sticks out his hand. whoa. Never had THAT reaction before. "yea, my name is Gayathri... you are?" "mart, wow. Great to finally meet you... a lot of the the guards are weirded out by the fact that a woman rides that bike, but I think its great. You really know how to ride, dont you? I've seen the tyres..." at this point I'm holding myself up against the wall, weakly protesting as my little ego swells with pride. I feel it filling the small hallway... we talk some more about motorcycles, he gives me his number and says he wants to get together with other bikers at JPL who know how to ride, not the guys who just kinda kick tyres at the rock store... I float away to my meeting....
