To: labiker@motohaus.org Subject: Re: LABiker: Today's ride Date: Sun, 10 Nov 2002 20:51:07 -0500 From: gayathri Digger -- sounds like I missed ya -- having partied too hard last night, I woke up at 9 30 am, and called around to see who was still around. My friend Domi and I met at Dish around 11 am, ate breakfast, and then headed up. I can't even begin to explain how absolutely BEAUTIFUL the mountains were today -- the clouds that were settled in the valleys in the distance, ringing the tops of distant peaks, the sky so clear it almost hurt to breathe it (my throat's still sore from being sick), and the leaves changing colours -- I miss new england most around this time of year, and have to get my baby fix of changing leaves, the red maples, the golden yellows and the browns... the damp and wet leaves on the road. (heh) I led up the hill, and Domi's definately pretty happy with her new f4i, so we played tag and avoided the rocks and sand on the road (not much). The few cars that I came up upon moved out of the way -- which was great. Get up to Newcomb's and have some hot tea and sit in the sun chatting with Roland Smith and some other JPL'ers and watch the emergency rescue vehicle head on down the hill. I hope it wasnt for a motorcycle. Get geared up and head on down the hill. The ERV was about 4 miles south of Newcombs in a turnout next to a cliff -- we couldnt tell if it was bike car or hiker, but didnt bother slowing down to find out. Have I mentioned that I LOVE my new smith sunglasses? The direct sunlight around 3 pm is pretty harsh up that high, but the sunglasses worked great to cut that down. We stopped at the intersection of Upper Big T and Angeles Crest and I motioned Domi to lead. WHOOO!!!!! She's so cute on her yellow bike, with her yellow jacket and yellow arai helmet... chased her all the way down to Angeles Forest Highway -- Upper Big T had some sand, but not much, and it was empty. We were passed by a SV who was willing to go faster in the straights then we were (Officer Brevetta uppermost in my mind) and kept heading on down. A few months ago, Domi had been in a car / bike accident in Sunland, trying to get to Lower Tujunga from the freeway -- she said she was ready to try and go back to the site in our reverse way, so we took Lower T down to sunland. I passed her in the middle of Lower T, 'cause the road was just PERFECT, and Puddle of Mudd's "Blurry" was running thru my head and I wanted it out. Nothing like an application of power and speed on a sunny cool November day to clear your head. We were being chased by someone on what looked like a red BMW (older one) on Lower T, just as a Vstrom had been shadowing us up the hill -- they seemed content to let us keep the pace, so that was good. Best part was seeing the red bike lose itself in the distance as the T5 really opened up in third gear, 7K rpms.. But Domi wasnt too far behind! That was great fun... I only lost her when I did a dreaded double yellow pass by a slow car that wasnt getting out of our way. (wheelie by the bastard! yea! no, actually, I didnt wheelie, but wished I could!) We made it to Sunland ok and hit the freeway and home... I'm so bouncy that I'm dragging someone out to dinner and a movie tonite (since my 7:15 am appt. got moved to tuesday and I dont have to be in bed by 9 pm. :-p).
