Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 13:24:12 -0500 From: gayathri >gayathri, >what time are you guys leaving? you told me on Monday that you guys were >leaving your place at 7?? DOH! I said our place at 6, dinner was at 7, meeting around 6:30 at the resturant... but you found us. :-) Gayathri's Great Adventure: Looks like I was unclear to _everyone_ 'cept Andrea about wanting to leave at 6 pm from my house. The traffic over to Glendora can be iffy and I wanted to leave enough time to get there and not worry about it, as when I get home, no one is ready to leave. (I, of course am running late 'cause my boss finally found me after a week and needed a core dump to know what's going on. *sigh*) So we actually dont get out of there 'til sometime after 6:15, and poor Sonny still isnt around, so I figure, "Maybe he's bringing the wife and kids..." and we take off. First I manage to cut off Andrea while making a left turn by turning too wide. just before we hit the traffic jam that's the freeway. (Doh! Fortunately, she recovered well) Then, as I'm on the freeway, I realize, "Oops, forgot to tell Motorcycle Boy to put gas in the bike when he did the oil change..." but I have enough gas to get to glendora. Just not enough to get home. (This is important later.) Immediately lose both Squidboy (with Miss K on the back) and Andrea while lanesplitting the carpool lane. But then I found a clear patch of road and just cruised along at 65 mph... get off on Grand Ave, head South and stop at the 76 station. (Notice that the 76 Station has easy access back out to get onto the 210 W, which I figure is good for going home, so I make a note to stop at this gas station on the way out to get gas...) Wait for Andrea and Squidboy to catch up. They do. We continue to Grand and then turn on Alosta. Now we're looking for the resturant, so there I go, slow and wobbly, except there 's a car in front of me going even slower and even more wobbly... Car driver freaks out, pulls over to the side of the road and lets us pass. We pass a car accident on the side of the roas as wel, complete with police and tow truck. We find Vince's, but miss the turn into the driveway/HUGE parking lot... and turn into the driveway after. Which puts us in an awkward place, as all the streets in Glendora have islands in the middle, and you can't just pull a UTurn out of that parking lot. Hungry, I decide that riding down the sidewalk is a good idea. so I do it. (I figure all the cops are busy at the accident... how many police can Glendora have?) I pull into the parking lot and park. Only to find that we've parked away from the other bikes. Oh well. Go in. Find lots of Biker Scum. :) sit down, order drinks, much merriment ensues, with conversations ranging from how former Marines dont have to finish their food if they dont want to, who wants to see Black Hawk Down (not me), dogs of all kinds -- Great Danes, and Rottweilers in particular, Cats and Dogs living together, cheap airfares, motorcycles of course, where's SuperSarah? to "oh, wow, she's really late." when she does arrive, screwing up clutches, how many clutches need to be fixed, earrings, acoustic Grateful Dead, cool books, music, blind black songwriters, how tall CAtherine is, oh, I'm sure I'm missing something... Food was good, people were great, much fun, as usual. On the way home, I have to stop to get gas. I tell Andrea, and Sonny that they dont have to wait for me, I'll just be stopping to get gas, but they decide to follow me about. We head off to that 76 station, and we get into the left turn lane. (I have to make a left and then another left to get into the gas station, as there are no U Turns allowed. Argh.) And we wait. and wait. and wait some more. Three light cycles go by, including me hopping off the bike to hit the 'walk' button to see if that might help. No such luck. our left turn light stays red. "*&%&^$)&&(%" I think Finally, I give up, and saying "aaaaarrrrgh!", in a typical Charlie Brown voice, as I give up, check the traffic and make an illegal U turn into the parking lot of the gas station. The rest of the gang must have followed me, but as I pull into the 76 station, I see paper on each of the pumps, "Out of Gas." "AAAAARTRRRRRRRGGGH!" I think again, as I pull out and head back to the Mobil on the corner of Alosta and Grand. Everyone else comes up and says, "why'd you leave?!?" they hadnt seen the "Out of Gas" signs... We get gas, make a few more U Turns and head back to the freeway, and home. Its cold, mostly 'cause I think my stomach has all the blood... Thanks to the Glendora Mob for calling the dinner!
