To: labiker@Enzian.ph.ucla.edu Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2002 19:28:36 -0500 From: gayathri Subject: Labiker: Crest to Bouquet Ride, today... Was mostly successful. Our only bad thing was squidboy's clutch cable popped just about where Brian K's popped a few years ago on a similar ride. Lots of people showed up! Hopefuly, I'll remember everyone: Squidboy, on his ugly zx-6r Donovan on his SV650 Hunter on his SV650 George (not on the list) on his Guzzi Shane (on the list) on his Duc748 Sonny on his 748, Sonny's friend on Sonny's old 900SS JimD on his Superhawk DCon on his Suzuki Intruder (?) Some Guy on a zrx1200 (he emailed me, and I can't remember his name) Richard who caught up and had breakfast with us (on his SUperhawk, he's new too, but he left before we kept going) Trevor on his "f2 (good to see ya! who decided to go over the crest to Wrightwood -- hope that was fun!) and me on my T595 (need new front tyre) Man, let me tell ya, I had NO IDEA you all would show up. Thanks for making it a fun ride (and no one crashed! yay!) Up to Newcomb's for breakfast, then back down to Upper Big T, and off to Angeles Forest, we took a side trip to Aliso to see if it was open, but it wasnt (:() Then we took off down Angeles Forest to the end, got onto some side roads to Lake Elizabeth (I dunno, I just know how to get there...), passed an accident on the intersection of Sierra Highway and Ave. S (the Mobil Station we should have stopped at), and then had an adventure jumping all our bikes thru and down a small wall to get to the parking lot of a gas station (which had NO BATHROOM!) and then onto Lake Elizabeth Road! Turned onto Bouquet Canyon where I got the singular joy of watching y'all like a snake from the back. WHOoo!!! Turned onto Vasquez Canyon and headed to Sand Canyon. Before the intersection of Sand and the 14, I noticed that squidboy was running his bike across the street -- turns out his clutch cable had broken. :( Everyone else headed to sand canyon / little T, and Squidboy and I headed onto the freeway to home. Booooooring! We made it to the Rosemead exit, but then realized that nursing it thru all the traffic lights would be horrible, so I waited with the zx-6, while Squidboy took the T5 home to get a fzr400 clutch cable, and other ass't things. He comes back with a drink for me (thank goodness! I was dyin'!) and got the fzr400 cable onto the bike. ITs a little short, so he's slipping the clutch all the way home, but we made it! safe and sound. Fortunately, Berts has a cable, so we're off to go get that tonite, so we can ride again tomorrow. Thanks again! :) Gayathri >-------------------------------------------------------------- gayathri@world.std.com Calamari Club #002, WSMC #98 '88 FZR400 ('gurlzbike') '98 T595 Daytona, "huckleberry" "Dream as if you'll live forever.
