To: labiker@gholam.ph.ucla.edu Subject: LABiker: a squid's night out.. Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2001 18:38:33 -0400 From: gayathri so i was forced to have dinner with a cute biker chick last night (hey, rebecca), and had to take the bike to West LA or wherever the hell I was. Anyway, the freeways were remarkably EMPTY, and the speeds were well over what Mr Policeman would have liked, but no chp in site! whooo!!! 210 W to 110 W to 10 W... only barely slowing down at the 10 interchange, but the 210 to the 110 has a great tunnel. *mmm. wouldnt louder pipes sound COOL here?* *brrrap!* Dinner is great (Versailles on La Cienega) and after barely fitting back into my leathers with the vest and dinner, I head off to home around 11 pm. the freeway is again, empty, and soon I'm on the 10 E to the 110 E onramp. its CLEAR! yes! whooohoo! *rooooooollll on that throttle* and merge smoothly onto the 110... again, thru those tunnels near the 5 freeway **brapppp! braaaap!!** and the fun part begins... I'm cold, its cold outside, so I'm cold, but my new Tecknics are doing well at keeping my hands warmer (no vents!) and I'm tootling along at 85 mph indicated in the center lane. I notice some lights coming up really quickly on my left, and watch in amazement as a _minivan_ passes me. (no way. is it a soccer-mom?) I watch as it enters the oncoming turn and smoothly drives thru it. No brakes. I pull in behind it and thus begins a chase I was *laughing* all the way thru. We're playing tag as the mini's picking up speed and I look down to see the dreaded triple digits... and I realize that I'm getting my _ass_ kicked. (*no way. You aren't gettin' away, buddy...*) I speed up, and notice the cage does too, but again, really smoothly. This person never went over the line, stayed intheir lane, and was so predictible, I wondered if they raced or rode themselves... I cant even tell you what kind except I'm pretty sure it was American. not japanese... but its driver was all about no brakes, and we were taking those turns so smoothly, and we're just flying thru that section, turn by turn by turn. I dont ever catch the mini, so I dont even know if the driver was a man or woman, or exactly what kind it was, but boy... was that ever fun. then, on the way home from Pasadena, I notice that the flowers are really blooming, so the night jasmine makes for a great smell all the way home...
