To: nedod@nedod.org Subject: My Sunday Ride From: gayathri Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 17:05:35 -0400 Given that I hadnt had my butt in the saddle for over two months, I decided to try it out on Sunday. (After watching Race Two of AMA Superbike, and giving myself enough time to get home to see the 500 GP race. :-p) Got to the infamous shell station around 1 pm, and ran into Alfred Jung on his 650 Hawk... (Willow racer and all around Nice Guy) (I misheard that he was waiting for friends and terrified of completely embarassing myself, I told Squidboy we were leaving now...) Ride was pretty uneventful, except for my accidental horn honking when I meant to hit the signal... cages were pulling over for us left and right, and I spent the ride up just concentrating on looking as far ahead as I could. Right hand decreasing radius turns were causing some consternation (I can't imagine WHY!) but I forced myself to keep looking, lean the bike and stay on the throttle... (whoo!!! whoohoo!!! Look I'm RIDING!!!!) Pardon me, while I again do a wild happy dance. The Madonna song kept running thru my head (~Get into the groove~), tho I kept throwing it out by singing "Rock Star" a la a local band, Echo Love Chamber(~Hey now, I'm a porn star...~) Wow. Its better then the dreaming. While I still have nightmares about my crash, I'd still dream about those perfect moments and those perfect days on the motorcycle... and while this wasnt as smooth as the dreams, things felt great. Up at Newcomb's Ranch a mere 28 miles up the Angeles Crest Highway, we stopped for some iced tea, schmoozing, and french fries. Hung out in the sunshine and mentioned that there were too many chicks on the back of bikes and not enough on their own, laughed at a couple of squids getting on their TL1000's and GSxr1000s with full face helmets, tank tops, shorts, and no gloves. (Hey, Mr, I'll buy that gsxr for a 1$) When Alfred said he's heading down, so Steve and I decide to go with him... (hopefully, we didnt bore him!) but it was fun following 'em both. Again, the cages pulled over for us and it was a pretty mellow pace down the hill... Damn, the sun is so bright, and the mountains were looking clear. I waved to Pam on the mountain at Mt. Wilson, and didnt spare too much thought for anything but that ribbon of road ahead of me. Shamelessly stolen from W. Guthrie: "As I was riding that ribbon of highway I saw above me that endless skyway I saw below me that golden valley This land was made for you and me" Huckleberry felt good -- tho those throtle bodies need balancing, and I want new boots. (Diadora, Sidi or...)
