Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 02:43:39 -0500 From: gayathri Subject: playin' hooky.. the sun was shining and the mountains were calling -- I havent been able to stand it the past few days, and I realy needed to scuff in those new D207's on my bike (put there, courtesy of a nice british mechanic at a Suzuki dealer, Millenium Cycles in half a day...) So I met Tony at the base of Little T and we headed up. Boy, its sunny. Boy, its bright. Boy i HATE THIS HJC helmet. I want another Arai. I never noticed on the track that it was pretty noisy, the venting pointed straight on my contacts and dried out my eyes. Bleh. Anyway, TonyA was _kind_ enough to keep the pace something I could do and I followed him up to the turn off 3/4ths of the way up Sand Canyon. (What's that, Bear something overlook?) and we both see this red SV650 with a buell windscreen. I thought it might be Sonny, but he completely ignored me to talk to Tony briefly and I figured Sonny would remember me. :) Fortuneately, TonyA wasnt ready to go, or I would have met him at the base of Sand Canyon with this poor SV rider looking confused. :) (Tony was on his trusty Trident...) We headed down and ende dup meeting up with the SV guy again on Soledad Canyon Road, and Tony and he took off. The fucking HJC kept putting dust right onto my contact lenses and I wasnt in the mood to try and ride with one eye clear. Tony had this idea we could avoid the traffic and construction on the north side of Sand Canyon by going past Vasquez Rocks. Oops. they are doing contruction there too. we waited, watching this incredibly BORED blond chick with the STOP sign wait as the 'chase' truck winds slowly our way. I couldn't figure out how she was balancing the stop sign, the cigaarette, and the cellphone all at once. Oh. they were tarring the road. that stuff STINKS. then there were two large trucks blocking the roadway, and the leader truck goes off into the dirt and we're suppposed to follow him. Good thing there was just enough room to stay on pavement. That shoulder was a little too slanted for me.. Then Tony takes me on some road that goes by a movie ranch and we head to Vasquez to Bouquet. I'm hungry so we eat at the Bouquet Cafe, and then hit San Fransquito to Spunky. San Fran was ok, except for that one fuckhead in the .. um.. cheepy japanese econobox that would NOT get out of the way. It was fun seeing TonyA pass him and give me just enough room to hit 90mph as the road turned. OOooooohhhhhh!!! :) (eh, it was a hunnert mile corner, easy!) then... we hit a line of cars, who all move over to let us pass. Uphill. VROOM!!!! just as it opens up, we hit Spunky. mmm. spunky! a little sand, but otherwise FUN! I love the view of the water from up there. Then onto bouquet! vbrooooom! The water is SSSSOOO bright (and this helmet sucks so badly!) -- the sun was starting to get long and that stupid light bright thing was happening, but Bouquet was pretty empty. Then back onto Sand Canyon. I practice shifting and braking. My wrists hurt from leanning on the bars, I'm not using those stomach muscles enough. (they are sore from too many situps the night before. yea. that's it...) and thus ended the ride.. no peacocks on Sand Canyon tho. Thanks a HUGE amount, Tony! Hopefully you are back on the 'net!
