Laguna Trip Report: (Part 1) ok, so not having a watch really sucks (we were late to everything!) And getting sick at wsb really sucks -- squidboy and I walked up the hill above turn 4 towards turn 8 and spent the entire sunday there and in the corkscrew (napping and watching the races). I never got to shop at all! Other then that, I had a great time! the ride up was fun, tho we managed to lose an hour and a half trying to find a short cut and almost missed ProThunder and the 600 race (got there JUST as they were doing the National Anthem! yes!) -- we did part of it on Thursday leaving after dinner in Burbank, heading up the 5, taking the road thru Frazier Park in Gorman to someting that hits the 166/33 and staying the night in Taft. This was cold and it was dark and we went really REALLY slow, but the bright headlights on the T5 were great. :) (The tinted shield was not such a good idea.) Got up the next morning to hit rt 58 first thing -- new pavement ROCKS... I love the d207 on the front, tho at highspeeds, I've got a good wobble with the bt56ss on the rear (will get that changed tout suite) Had brunch in paso robles and headed thru the G-roads (g14 mostly) and then got lost in Fort Hunter Liggett trying to find gas and the shortcut which ended on a dirt road -- we turned back 'cause I wasnt going to try and brave my way thru about 20 miles of dirt (I dont know how much dirt it really was, but hte road was closed and I knew we could get back onto g14 and take g18 to g20 fairly quickly) Left our two riding companions at King City (they were heading up to Los Gatos that night anyway and werent ready to leave when squidboy and I were). Squidboy and I then do quite possibly the fastest 50 miles of twisties I've ever ridden -- I couldnt keep up with him, but wasnt trying to -- just kept my head down and concentrated on looking thru the turns and rolling on the throttle. No Mistakes. (no fear!) Get there, get to the track, get to turn 2 and watch ProThunder -- recognize that there are a bunch of SV650's out there, and begin to recognize a few names... Stephen Lilliot, WSMC racer and brother to my NeDOD friend Scott was racing his Duc748 out there. Head up to the grandstands in turn 1, and realize that Mark Palazzo (last years WMSC Top Rookie Expert) was out there, as was Vincent Haskovec (who finished right behind Roger Lee Hayden), Jeremy Toye, Ben Welch, and Sam Carnibucci -- wsmc racers all! how _cool_ was that? We went to the paddock right after the 600 race to jump up and down with Jeremy and Mark Palazzo who was STILL high on getting to race with the big boyz. whooHOO! (something definately changes when watching a race live and seeing someone you hang with locally in the mix...) Saturday, Mark was racing an R1 in Formula Xtreme, and as we were leaving the paddock, I ran into Jason Dave, who's racing a yam 250, with the red-white-and-blue bike/leathers -- he and I took New Racer School together about a year ago... *dances* I _knew_ people in just about all the AMA races... Made watching it that much more fun for me... (more later) :) ------ Part II -----
