To: labiker@ph.ucla.edu Subject: Re: LABiker: Re Saturdays ride Date: Mon, 08 May 2000 18:05:05 -0400 From: gayathri Meg: hey there, I'm sorry to take so long to write back - no email access from home right now! First off, let me thank Tony for showing us the way from Sand Canyon to San Franscquito! I'm really sorry we (BrianK, KurtK and I) lost you when I flaked at the gas station and dropped my tape player batteries all over the ground). Anyway, It was Great seeing everyone on Saturday: (hopefully, I'll remember y'all) Me and Squidboy (on his zx-6r), TonyA on his SV650, MarcSiry (who managed to find us in time also on his SV650), Gracie on her FT500, BrianK on his F650, Vic with her m750, KurtK with his sweet 916, SarahB on her 'f2, JimD on his SuperHawk, and Meg with her lovely F650, and Chris on his (?) BMW r1100 (?). Sarah and I both thought Chris was the infamous RTRon, but were soon disillusioned... Where'd we go? Angeles Crest to Angeles Forest to Lower Tujunga (hrm, my tyres are slipping here..) to *mumble some side streets that led to FootHill Bvld* to OSborne to Little Tujunga. Boy, I love the views on this road. no Peacocks or llamas today, and very little sand! Stop at the intersection of Little T and let squidboy play with my suspension (the new ohlins rear, you gutter minds!) head down Sand Canyon to our first gas stop. Suddenly, this really weird four wheeled Honda thing screeches to a stop and Steve Squire and JenifferM pop out to say hello on their way up to see the moto corsa classica. (how'd you guys know where we'd be stopped?) Tony leads us over the rest of Sand Canyon to vasquez canyon (damn those _stupid big dust blowing trucks!) -- meg, hope you didnt mind us passing you as well as the trucks! and a left onto Bouquet Canyon into some local traffic and then onto San Franscquito! I havent been on this road in a while --little sandy and chopped up -- I havent gotten the rear set up right yet on the triumph (ok, the front is a little too hard too) -- good thing I could grip with my legs as the front skitters all over the road. (hrm, back tyre slithers some more! what's UP with that?) then we stop at the entrance to SpunkyCanyon, but no one seems to want to go that way, we're HUNGRY and the Rock Inn is not too far!!! Good yummy cheap food at the Rock Inn (tho one has to tell the waitress NO MAYO!). Jim D offer'd to be my parental unit so they'd me into the resturant. (hey! um. HEY!) I look at my rear tyre and think, Hrm, I dont rembmer those wear bars showing before! silly me, I even have a new tyre at the house. Will replace it before Palomar/SandyEggo ride... lots of great talking, geeking, getting to know each other, poking fun at Kurt's clothing and style sense (like I should talk...), admiration of each other's t-shirts (I'll have to wear some cool JPL ones next time!) and stealing of french fries. *looks innocent* After lunch, Meg and Chris went off to find poppies, and the rest of us headed to Lake Hughes Road. I hit a rock in some shadows and poor Kurt go to see Huckleberry get all bent out of shape -- looks like a good chunk of tyre got eaten too by the rock, so I ended up having to slow it down and let him get by me. It was fun trying to follow Kurt, but with no cellphone and no chance of rescue by the Squidboy (who was on his way to ventura with the same gang that had kidnapped him to vegas) and that bald rear tyre, i had to curb what few killer instincts I had. *snicker* At the bottom of Lake Hughes, we stop at a gas station, Miz Sarah takes off. After getting gas, a communications snafu leaves me, kurt and Brian left behind whilst the South Bay contingent listen to their various whips and chains and have to head home. I lead Kurt and Brian on the Old Road and then past Cycle Gear in Newhall and somehow by blind instinct find Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road to ALiso Canyon, to Angeles Forest (these tyres are TOAST!) back to the Crest and to home! James and the Giant Peach was on when I got home, and without having computer access I read and watched tv and fell asleep with my cats. :) Thanks to everyone for making it a fun ride. Meg -- dont worry 'bout having to chase any of us -- ride your own damn ride, we'll wait -- and its not like its even that LONG a wait! I enjoyed following you and Chris on San Franscquito, and look forward to riding with you both again...
