Date: Mon, 08 Nov 1999 21:10:15 -0500 From: gayathri the aforementioned Laurel and Hardy sunday ride... Saturday afternoon, this sexy chick biker calls me up and disapointingly enough, she's not stalking me, but asking if her crew can meet us for our sunday ride. Sure, the more the merrier... Turns out 'us' is just me and squidboy, but then I see Sarah (aforementioned non-stalking sexy chick) and then a huge group of her friends -- one, some of you know -- Lisa (aka act12lisa) on an r-6, Gavin on a sexy chromed out Monster, his gf Joanne ( Arnie thinks she's "Very Nice") on her nighthawk, then some surfer guy on a 'f3, and he of the Very Bad Pic on a vfr750, and Sarah, you are going to have to remind me of everyone's names that i've missed. anyway, Gavin comes up with the Plan... and we head out. I'm thinking Joanne is pretty quick on that nighthawk as we take a fairly quick pace up the Crest -- at the firestation, a red zx-6 passes me.. oops.. where's Joanne? I think I see her headlights behind me, and then begin to concentrate on keeping up with the gang up front... Whoa, you know, the bike comes alive over 6 grand.. we get to the palmdale turnoff a lot faster then I'm used to, but its feeling comfortable. I'm practicing everything I learned in CLASS. But then Joanne doesnt show up. And gavin takes off back down the hill to find her. And steve takes off after gavin. (Sarah and her crew were waved off by gavin and were heading up to newcombs via Angeles Forest and upper Big T...) I wait, looking for her. After 15 minutes, I head back down the hill, figuring if something's up, they might need some help. Gavin and Squidboy pass me, and I turn around to follow them. They havent found her on the road. Gavin is worried. For some reason, i'm not -- I'm pretty sure she was behind me, and missed us turning at the angeles forest turn off. They decide to head to Hidden Springs and call her house... the COOLEST part of the day was here -- theere was a old brit bike group out in full force. I saw a Vincent Black Prince. Squidboy told me I might never see one again. then we walked around and looked at the triumphs and nortons, and he showed me the one most similar to the ones he'd owned. All sorts of very cool older bikes. then of course, I had a swarm of weird old guys around _my_ triumph... but somehow it was ok. *hee hee* last week, same place, i had a couple of very goodlookin' young guys... We head up to Newcomb's Ranch, and everyone's wondering where Joanne is. Gavin calls home and then heads back down the hill. I see roland.. he overhears us, and says, "were you looking for a woman on a blue nighthawk, lots of fringe?" we all yell 'yes!' -- he says she went uphill. Someone says, "who's going after Gavin?" Sarah and I look at squidboy. I ask him if he wants my bike, as his tyres were a little.. bald. he heads down the hill. Sarah decides to go uphill and find Joanne. I decide I'm hungry and the rest of us head inside. Joanne and Sarah come back first, and then JUSt as we're leaving, Gavin shows up, sans my squidboy. (hey! can't we all just RIDE togheter?) squidboy is close to out of gas, so he's waiting at the palmdale turnoff, the site of all the confusion. i was right, Joanne was behind us, but didnt know the route (gavin forgot to tell her) and went straight. The rest of the gang had JUST missed her at newcomb's. We ride down -- I'm having great fun following sarah and Lisa... body steering rocks. I'm still finding that I have to press on the outside peg in long turns tho.. at the palmdale turnoff... there aint no squidboy. OH NO! we all look at each other, and I hear, "this is another fine mess you've gotten us into!" I say, confidently -- Squidboy is at the shell station. He's getting gas and something to eat. We ride on down, and find that I'm right... :) sarah, I did have a wonderful time! the riding was good, and I really wasnt worried about Joanne, but it does bring up the 'where do we meet' if we get seperated is a good idea. squidboy's tyres look like race slicks. Mine are used all the way to the edge. Pretty good day after all.
