I was supposed to go to east la this morning, or why I should get a thomas guide for the bike. I was supposed to take the 110 to the 10, or so I thought. After getting lost, and further reading the directions showed that I had to take the 110 s to the 5s to the 10 w, to the mateo st/ santa fe exit. So here I am on the 10 heading the wrong way - to santa monica, not east L.A. Ok, I figure out that I have to turn around, but since California seems to have all these annoying streets that dont get you back onto a freeway in the opposite direction, I'm now somewhere in Culver City wandering around railroad tracks trying to find a freeway entrance to the 10 e. Find one. Almost lose traction on all the SAND in the carpool lane. argh. So then I'm going along. Remembering my directions to say "Mateo street" instead of Santa Fe, I end up missing my exit. The next is the interchange where the 10 runs into the 5 south, and the 60 east. I'm on the 5 south. (HEY! how'd I get here?) so I get off the 5 south, and try to turn around. This neighborhood isn't that scarey, but anywhere where all the houses have 6-10 ft tall concrete walls scare me. I'm not used to it. I try to find the 5N. I end up on the 101 N. wait a second! how'd I get here? what happened to the 5?!? I follow signs to see one that says 10! that will work! But its the 10 EAST! too far east of where I need to go. ok. I'll turn around again. But I pick an exit where I can see the entrance ramp over the bridge. (I'm not getting lost on these side streets again!) I get to the end of the off ramp, and make my left over the bridge, confident that I'll now end up on the right track. too soon! I realize that the entrance ramp is for the 101! N. AGAIN! wait! I see the other ramp on the wrong side of too many dividers heading to the 10 E.... I make another U turn, that ends me up on the same on ramp onto the 10, from a different direction and I head a couple of exits further east. Except now I'm seeing signs for the 710. ok, self, i say to myself. If I end up on the freakin' 710, I'm going home, getting back into bed and giving up. I see an exit! with an entrance on the bridge! and no other onramps.. I FINALLY get onto the 10 e, and find the Mateo/santa fe exit and find where I need to go. Getting home was simpler. I was on the 10e to the 5 n to the 2n to the 210e... Late to work tho. :/ Gayathri ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gayathri@world.std.com Calamari Club #002, SquidWannaBe '98 T595, Huckleberry Hound
