Cards from 2006 through 2015

2006 Card

Like its 28 predecessors, this card visually summarizes our lives' events the year it was made. However, there is a textual key to the images, and on the other side of that this year we printed straightforward photos taken in 2006. In addition Eva's 2006 book and movie lists were enclosed with the card.

Crèche figures carved
from Ivory soap front; Herman's cousins in Pubnico, Nova Scotia inside; red-shouldered hawk in a pine tree back

The front of the envelope, with address label, return address label, and U.S. postage stamp all
custom-designed for this card. Eva in her Halloween penguin costume Female belted kingfisher photographed outside James d'Entremont's boat shop
in Pubnico, Nova Scotia A photo of the cemetery gate flanked by angels with trumpets. We visited Herman's mother's grave here.
The address-label decorations U.S. postage stamp by Eva

The back of the envelope was sealed with one of these stickers:
Monument in Ivory by Bob Cooper. It's a feline sculpture with 'A.T. 1993-2006' carved into the base A meadowlark singing, surrounded by wreath-like green lettering saying 'Hark the Herald Sings'
with a streak of red ribbon-like lettering saying 'Glory!' Photo of a monk parakeet in a pine tree A crystal cube with the logo of the company formerly known as Mathsoft, now subsumed into PTC Ivory soap sculpture of a camel

Abstraction of a photo of the chef and his assistant, with lettering saying
'Chez Christophe' running up the side We buried A.T.in the backyard with this lamenated memorial photo in a sealed jar. Custom-designed official U.S. postage stamps: Besides the limited edition (20 exist in the world) stamp of the trumpet-blowing angels at the gates of the cemetery in Herman's ancestral hometown of Pubnico Nova Scotia, I also designed a stamp to celebrate Chez Christophe, a restaurant in the Acadian region of N.S. where we had a particularly lovely lunch with friends and family. While I was at it, I had a commemorative stamp for A.T. made as well at www.zazzle.com.

Symbols not covered in the Key to the Symbols:

The red-breasted bird (You need some imagination to recognize it as a bird, I admit it's a bit abstract) with the black head and the white in the wing in the peak of the stained glass is the Painted Redstart, which Herman was thrilled to see in Zion National Park. I did not photograph the bird--I did not even see it. I was off on a hike while Herman sat in a canvas chair at the Temple of Sinawava.

The turtle in the stained glass window represents our daily walks around Cutler Lake in Needham, because a large turtle crossed our path one day.

The cardinal reminds us of our visit to Ellie and Stauffer because that was the predominant species at their feeders.
