A series of offerings of sacred music, instrumental and vocal
March 5th through April 23rd in the Old South Sanctuary . Freewill offering.
These half-hour recitals from 12:15-12:45 pm will be offered by different artists each week, providing a time of pause and reflection in the midst of a busy day. Admission is free, donations will be accepted at the door.

March 12th: Organum-We welcome organist Torsten Laux and saxophonist Uwe Steinmetz to our sanctuary. These two fine German musicians offer improvisations based on Gregorian chant, hymns, and modern sacred tunes. Through their music, they incorporate traditions of classical improvisation as well as contemporary jazz.

March 19th: Trilium-Margaret Hunter, Allison Mondel, and Robert Sussma come to the Gordon Chapel with their unique program of medieval English music for three treble voices. These Meditations on the Virgin Mary offer an experience of ancient spirituality.

March 26th: Hofkapelle-Students from the Longy School of Music will give a program of music heard in the Imperial Chapel of the Hapsburgs in 17th Century Vienna. These hidden treasures by composers such as Caldara, Draghi, Priuli, and Valentini offer a glimpse into the religious life of the Holy Roman Emperors.

April 2nd: Jason McStoots and Adriana Repetto
Sacred Songs of Holst and Vaughan Williams
Adriana Repetto, soprano section leader in the Old South Choir, will present Four Songs for Voice and Violin by Gustav Holst, Fellow section leader and Old South member Jason McStoots will sing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Four Hymns for tenor, viola and piano. The recital also features violist David Feltner and pianist Linda Osborn-Blaschke.

April 9th: Daryl Bichel, organist. Monastery Organist at the Society of St. John the Evangelist in Cambridge and member of the Old South Choir, Daryl will play selected works for organ by Johannes Brahms. Brahms’ few organ

The Ministry of Music at the Old South Church in Boston

The ministry of music at the Old South Church in Boston seeks to glorify God through creative interpretation of the Church’s musical literature; the use of aesthetic means and vehicles to mediate and present the grace and grandeur of God; and the participation of women and men of Old South and beyond, using their own considerable gifts to celebrate, worship and magnify this God of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The ministry of music at Old South is centered on the Sunday morning service and other church festivals in which organ, choir, soloists and instrumentalists provide musical and liturgical leadership for the worship of God and the spiritual edification of God’s people gathered at the Old South Church.  Old South also offers to the community a musical program that reflects our mission, through seasonal vespers concerts, organ recitals and other musical presentations on Sunday afternoons or weekday evenings.
