Old South Church News:

Looking Ahead

THE CHURCH IN THE WORLD

Sundays during Lent, March 5 to April 2

Old South will offer a very special All-Church Journey during Lent: THE CHURCH IN THE WORLD (Sundays, March 5 – April 2). Together we will look at how Christians responded to God’s call across two millennia. Often against the odds, in circumstances that were challenging and dangerous, the Christian Church responded to God with creativity and courage, embodying an ethic of love that touched, shaped and changed the world.

Our guides on this journey are outstanding Christian scholars from two institutions related to Old South: Andover Newton Theological School (the oldest independent theological school in the US) and the American Congregational Association.

The Officers, Church Council and Ministers join in urging every member and friend of Old South to make this Lenten journey a priority. Mark your calendars and save the dates. Each session will be offered twice (choose one), 9:00 - 10:30 AM (light breakfast) or 12:30 - 2:00 PM (light lunch). Childcare is provided. RSVP for childcare and to help us plan for food and materials at <reception@oldsouth.org> or call 617/536-1970. Old South cannot extend our parking validation at the Prudential Center Garage beyond the three-hour limit. We will however reimburse the additional hours for any who would not be able to otherwise attend.

This lecture series is also co-sponsored by the American Congregational Association.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 10:00 am

All creatures great and small are invited to Old South’s Gordon Chapel for a special Spring Blessing of the Animals. All pets are welcome. (If they bite or sting, please contain them properly.) Children are invited to bring their stuffed animals as well. Old South’s ministers will lead us in a brief service of song and prayer and gratitude for the gift of companionship
and love our pets provide us. During the Parade of Pets, each critter – real and stuffed – will be given a blessing from the ministers.
