DBUG March 2002

Q:What is o2c?

A:o2c displays three-dimensional, freely movable objects, as photo-realistic and fully interactive. You can view o2c models independently, embedded within a web page, or embedded in a Word document.

Q:Where do you get o2c?

A:Check the DataCAD web site for information on the latest o2c drivers.

Q:How does o2c work inside of DataCAD?

A: - Rendered colors, materials and properties are mapped to DataCAD’s colors (any of 255 colors).

- For instance, if WHITE entities in DCAD are assigned to be translucent green, or brick, for instance, then ALL white entities in DCAD will be assigned those properties.

- You cannot assign materials to specific surfaces; only to entire colors.

- The o2c viewer within DataCAD then takes all the settings and renders a 3d, o2c model within a window in DCAD.

- All settings are saved in a .DMF (DataCAD Material File) file, which can be used on the current or any other models.

- Symbols are rendered according to the true colors in them; not the current color of the symbol.

- Shader lights will translate to an o2c model, but you cannot control the lights in the o2c viewer.

Q:How do you control the viewing of o2c models?

A:Controls are straightforward, mainly using the mouse, along with some simultaneous keys to add some more movement options (see the chart).

- Note difference between “Normal” viewing versus “Walk-Thru” viewing

Q:How do you control lights in the o2c model?

A:Via lighting icon buttons at bottom of viewer.

B: #1: Sunlight on/off

#2: Ambient light #1on/off

#3: Ambient light #2on/off

#4: Ambient light #3on/off

#5: Ambient light #4on/off

C:Any OpenGL lights you place in a DataCAD model are converted to o2c lamps when you launch the Object Viewer. The 0-100% intensity value is also carried over.

Q:How do clients view your o2c models?

A:They must download (or you must send them) the FREE o2c viewer.

Q:Animated o2c’s

A:These cannot be created in DataCAD, but can be inserted into DataCAD files (they have an .ACO).

Q:How do you embed o2c models in a Word Document?

(Intructions on the DCAD web site):

1. Start Microsoft Word and create a new document.

2. Click on Insert/Object from the pull-down menu.

3. From the Object type: list on the Create New tab, choose o2c-Player (mb Software AG) and click OK. An o2c client area is created.

4. Right-click anywhere within the client area to activate the context-sensitive menu.

5. Click on Load object.

6. Choose an o2c file from the Load object dialog and click on Open. The o2c object is placed in the client area.

7. Word is now in Design Mode.

- You can select the client area and use the handles to size it to the desired proportions.

- You can also select Properties from the context sensitive menu to access object settings such as

background color.

8. Select the Exit Design Mode icon from the Control Toolbox toolbar when you're finished editing the client area and object properties. You're now able to manipulate the o2c object using the o2c Player controls.

9. To save the document as a web page, click on File/Save As and set the Save as type: field to Web Page (*.htm; *.html). Enter a name for the document in the File Name field and click on Save.

o2c Tricks:

1.In the Viewer/Shader Color Map, click on the “R”, or right-click on the preview window and select Start Raytrace to fully render the preview. This is the only way to see Reflection, Highlight and Refractive in the preview window.

2.Render Backface (on/off):to see thru one side but not the other.

3.Use Layer/ActvOnly to work on specific parts of the model.

4.Import o2c objects into DataCAD.

5.Import 3D Viz objects into DataCAD.

a.Insert /o2c Object

b.Type *.*

c.Pick .3DS object and place in drawing

6.Save .DMF files for use in other models, or for multiple schemes.
