* LESSON 1: Sustainable Design Through LEED
by Greg Barriere, AIA and Guy Compagnone,
Director of Sustainable Practices/LEED AP, Chapman Construction/Design

This is an overview of the LEED program to show how through its various
initiatives, it promotes Sustainable Design in very clear ways, such as informed
selection of materials and products among many other issues. They will also
should how the US Green Building Council website allows you to access critical
information on LEED Resources and Sustainable Design.

NOTE: This presentation is a lead-in to the July 16th DBUG meeting, which will
be at Chapman Construction/Design in Newton, Mass. and will be a full LEED seminar
including a tour of their recently renovated office headquarters seeking LEED Platinum certification.
 

* LESSON 2: Home Energy Surveying
by Evan H. Shu, FAIA

Evan will show how easy it is to use tools such as the Kill A Watt meter and the
Energy Star yardstick to assess your own home's energy efficiency and carbon
footprint. He will show you his own quick methodology for doing a residential
energy survey and enacting an energy savings program to save 15% or more on
yearly energy costs using Sustainable Design strategies such as a) reducing base
and peak electrical demand, b) replace appliances with energy saving appliances
and equipment, c) improving heating and cooling efficiency.

 

From the North and West:
Southeast Expressway, or Route 128 (Route 24 or Route 95 to Route 128)
to Route 3 South
Route 3 South toward Cape Cod to
Exit 14 - Rt 228 Hingham/Rockland/Cohasset
At the light at the end of the exit ramp take a
Left onto Rt 228 for 1 mile
At the third light take a
Right onto Route 53/ Washington Street Norwell for 0.3 miles
At the light take a Left onto Grove Street
Follow Grove Street for 3 miles (bearing right at the fork at the 1.5 mile point)
At 3 mile point take a Right onto Bowker Street
First Driveway on your Left is 278 Bowker Street
Park anywhere in between the trees in the driveway
If we need additional parking there is a gravel parking lot 3rd driveway on the
left on Bowker Street near the swimming pools/cabins …walk through the camp to
the house on the corner of Bowker and Grove Streets
There is no parking on Bowker Street.

From the South:
Route 3 North to
Exit 13 toward Rt 123/Norwell/Scituate/Rockland
Take a Right off the Exit Ramp onto Route 53/ Washington Street
Follow Rt 53  for  0.3 miles to next light
Take a Right onto Route 123 / it will become Main Street Norwell
Take Rt 123 for 1.3 miles
At the 1.3 mile point turn Left onto Bowker Street
Follow Bowker Street 1.1 miles to last driveway on the Right
If we need additional parking there is a parking lot 3rd driveway on the left on
Bowker Street from Grove Street…walk through the camp to the house on the corner of Bowker & Grove
There is no parking on Bowker Street.
