Week 12a Motor Runup and Breakin

The Rotax manual has a well documented procedure for breaking in a new engine.

We were anxious to try it out and make some noise.

We had carefully assembled the prop and set the pitch at a default setting of around 14 degrees. We were also very careful to torque all of the prop bolts (there's 12 in all) to the manufacturers specs.

After tieing the tail down to our car trailer hitch and chocking the tires, the motor started just fine.

That's my son Don protecting his face from the prop blast.

Here I am checking out the temperature sensors. If you look closely at the tachometer, the third large intstument from the left, you can see it reading about 3,000 rpm.

Here's Paul Douglas again. He was driving by and saw us testing. His GearHead hormones just took over and he had to stop.
