Leslie Charteris wrote the first Saint book in 1929. Some of the later books written for the TV series and adapted for print. There were, of course, three different tv series, starting with the Roger Moore shows in the 60's. There was another series in the 70's (pretty bad) and a few shows were produced in the 80's for a 'Mystery Wheel' (American). There were some wonderful radio shows in the late 40's/early 50's, starring Vincent Price as the Saint!

Simon Templar, aka The Saint, 'The Robin Hood of Modern Crime', evolved rather suddenly from more of an anarchist (note capitalization) to less of an actual criminal. Claud Eustace Teal, Inspector at Scotland Yard was always trying to catch the Saint crossing the line. In the earlier books, there was an SO, Patricia, as well as something of a gang, but they disappeared in later books.

Take a look at for a large list of The Saint books by Leslie Charteris, as well as information on the Saint Fan Club, and much, much more.
