Republic Square

Republic Square, the hub of Yerevan

Republic Square and Hotel Armenia

Traffic around this rotary (roundabout) is light and remarkably sedate. You can cross one lane at a time safely; drivers will honk but really don't want to hit you. The buildings around it are similar in style and age, and were probably all put up at the same time during the Soviet era. The warm stone and graceful arches save them from an opressive Soviet look. That's the Hotel Armenia across the street, with a sidewalk cafe in front hidden by the trees.
