A Short History
right-bookend

Well it is all Donato's fault. You see it was a Friday afternoon in November 1991 and I had nothing to do that evening (I usually didn't have much to do most evenings, I have never really been a party type person) when I overheard Donato and our friend Bevan mention that they were going to a show at a club in Boston. Trusting in Donato's taste in music I asked if some tickets might still be available and if I could tag along. Well low and behold, not only was there a ticket available, but it was FREE. Being a college student, I was not going to pass up anything free so I went along. (A short digression: Donato explained that he and his friend Wendy from BU (yes, the one, the only: Wendy) had won pairs of tickets to this show; the band was 808 State; and one ticket was still available.)

So we went from the doomed city of Worcester to Boston and met up with Wendy and we went off to the show. The show was at the (now defunct) Channel, and we somehow managed to show up very, very early (a misunderstanding of the show time perhaps?). Combined with that was the fact Wendy had not brought along her ID (lost ID's was to become a common occurance for Wendy [grin]). The guy at the door told us he would let us in, so we went in and hung around for a while.

During this wait at some point whilst gabbing with Bevan (Donato had gone off to play a video game?). Wendy pointed out that it was unfair that there wasn't another woman around that she knew so that they could 'girl talk' (I believe this came up because Bevan and I were intermixing engineering gab with looking at women). I kindly offered up my services to talk about guys butts with Wendy, only happy to oblige a pretty lady. She thanked me but pointed out it probably just wouldn't be the same. Well can't say I didn't try to help.

To make a long story short, I found the show to be lacking so I can't relly remember much about it, anyway, it is not particularly important.

I came to know Wendy better after this run-in with her, mainly through our contact via the Internet. She would log into the WPI machines as Donato and I frequently sent 'hellos' to her thinking she was Donato. Soon it came to be that if we did not at least say 'hi' to each other each day there was something missing. We were miles away from each other but there seemed to be a good friendship. We would go out to ManRay together with other friends and in general hang around on weekends. Around March 1992 she was in the hospital with a serious problem with her intestines that needed surgery. She called me and other friends to get them to come into Boston to visit. Even getting totally lost in Boston and my big dislike of hospitals didn't keep me from visiting, at least for a few minutes.

Around June of 1992 I guess it sort of dawned on me that I was in love with this Wendy person, so I decided to just tell her. After tell her she didn't seem to know what to say (she was at the time dating at least one other guy), but she did allow me to kiss her (and this is when my plan all came togther [insert manical laughter here] (oh sorry)). After that kiss she was mine (or so she tells me).

She proposed to me in 1994, I accepted and we were married on October 31 1994. 1

Well the rest, is as they say, history.

1Ok, Ok, the actual date was the 30th but we celebrate our anniversary on the 31st.
