"Chop your own Wood, and it will keep you warm twice"

Return to Camp Idlewild Home Page

The Camp closed in 1975, and houses have been built on Cow Island. I went back a couple of years ago. Click here to read my report.

I think it was about 90 years old when it closed. The there was one owner before LD Roys. (See the brochure update!)

There were three age groups: Junior, Middler, and Senior, with about three hundred campers and staff of about one hundred.

Several people reminded me of the Camp cheer frequently sounded at Awards ceremonies. To the best of our collective recollections, here it is:

Chunkeena Chunkeena
Nappa Happa Nappa Saka
Whoa-up Whoa-up
Idlewild!

Help me remember the slogans around the mess hall.

Chop your own wood and it will keep you warm twice.

Success comes in Cans, Not in Can'ts.
