Gender Upends Tenure
"Equality in tenured professors is a long way off."

This editorial discusses the failure to tenure two women Associate Professors of Government despite their receiving their department's recommendations. One woman junior faculty member is quoted as saying "Harvard is a cultural institution that offers progressive space but it doesn't offer the possibility of job security. I don't know what it would take to alter the tenure system--it's fairly impervious to protest." The editorial points out that if the percentages of women faculty continue to grow at their current annual rate, parity won't be achieved for at least another eighty years. "And that's a long time."
