KT 1009
INTRODUCTION TO
CHEMISTRY
(Grades 6 through 8)
GOAL OF INTRODUCTION TO CHEMISTRY
- The student will observe, change, and manipulate several
properties of water, natural and man-made powders, crystals,
non-toxic man-made chemicals, and naturally occurring found
substances.
OBJECTIVES OF INTRODUCTION TO
CHEMISTRY
The student will:
- Observe visually both with the naked eye and a microscope, the
powder materials included in this Individualized Science Module.
Observations will be noted on the chart that has been included or
in a notebook.
- Find and observe in the same manner as objective #1,
household, non-toxic chemicals and other materials found in a
natural setting.
- Cause the powders and other materials to interact with the
liquids supplied in the Individualized Science Module kit and
describe and note these reactions.
- Hypothesize about upcoming reactions.
- Be able to explain the term "density" in his or her own words
and include in his or her definition the concept of more material
per volume of liquid.
- Observe that the density of water changes with the addition of
certain elements and chart the results.
- Observe and note that different liquids have different
densities and that densities influence how liquids react with one
another.
