KT1003
INTRODUCTION TO
ELECTRICITY
(Grades six and up)
GOALS OF INTRODUCTION TO
ELECTRICITY.
- The child will discover how an electric current follows a path
from a power source to a light bulb and return to the power source
effecting an electric circuit.
- The child will discover relationships between electricity and
magnetism and will be able to conduct experiments utilizing the
concept of electromagnetism.
OBJECTIVES OF INTRODUCTION TO
ELECTRICITY.
- The child will:
- Explore the relationships among a battery, wires, and light
bulbs.
- Discover through trial and error several ways to light the
bulb.
- Discover that batteries will produce heat if a circuit is
created through them and that the power of batteries degenerate
after use.
- Define in his or her own words, a circuit. The child should be
able to put into words something to the effect that electricity
travels in a circular fashion through wires from a source of some
kind to a light or some other object and that it continues on its
way after it has passes by the light back to the source.
- Discover through trial and error the effect of a "short
circuit" and will be able to attach the name "short circuit to the
phenomena.
- Discover the phenomena of magnetism, electromagnetism and
polarization.
