MINI
ELECTRICITY
(Grades 4 and up)
OBJECTIVES OF MINI ELECTRICITY
The child will:
- Explore the relationships among a battery, wires, light bulbs,
and doorbell.
- Discover through trial and various ways to light the bulb and
ring the bell.
- Discover that batteries will produce heat if a circuit is
created through them and that the power of batteries degenerate
after use.
- Define in his or her own words, a circuit. The child should be
able to put into words something to the effect that electricity
travels in a circular fashion through wires from a source of some
kind to a light or some other object and that it continues on its
way after it has passes by the light back to the source.
- Discover through trial and error the effect of a "short
circuit" and be able to attach the name "short circuit" to the
phenomena.
- Define in his or her own words, circuits in series and
circuits in parallel.
- Create and test his or her own hypotheses using the materials
both in the kit and found materials from the child's environment.
