KT1001
SIMPLE
CIRCUITS
(Grades four through six)
GOALS OF SIMPLE CIRCUITS:
- To observe that electricity follows a path from a power source
(battery) through a bulb and back to the battery.
- To manipulate a switch and observe that it can function as a
tool to complete or interrupt a circuit.
OBJECTIVES OF SIMPLE CIRCUITS:
The child will:
- Explore relationships among a battery, two copper wire(s), a
switch, and a bulb.
- Discover through trial and error which wire connections will
light the bulb and which connection will not light the bulb.
- Define, in his or her own words, a circuit. The child should
be able to put into words something to the effect that electricity
travels in a circular fashion through wires from a source of some
kind to a light or some other object and that it continues on its
way after it has passed by the light back to the source.
- Discover through trial and error the effect of a "short
circuit". After discovering the phenomena the child will furnished
with the name "short circuit" for this event.
