Oils on Canvas, Wood Panels and Driftwood

@

Nantucket has become a special place for our family over the last two decades. Like so many others, we have been captivated by the waves, the light, and the rhythm of the island.

It's charm and mysteries are inescapable. For a couple of weeks each summer, I photograph and paint there. On the beaches, at Cisco, wandering the piers and streets in town, exploring the nooks and crannies of Madaket, time dissolves and passes way too quickly. Many pieces were painted on the beach and on found pieces of driftwood.

I have brought groups of high school students to the UMASS Field Station for early spring four night adventures. I have taught at NISDA and exhibited at the Sconset Cafe (every other summer for the past eight years). I hope you enjoy this year's paintings, most of which were done on site while others from my photographs. I also collect old postcards and decided to revise one old image of Sankaty Lighthouse as a souvenir of the show.
