Aspendos - This 2nd Century AD ancient theater can seat 15000.  It is near Antalya.  View from stage area.

Aspendos - The stadium and theater are still used during festivals.

Fethiye - View of Meditterean Coastal town from Tomb of Amyntas.

Fethiye - Lycian Tomb of Amyntas which looms above the town.  This was the site of ancient Telmessos, dating to 400 B.C.

Pinara  (near Fethiye)- Introducing Theresa, our guide for the day!  We hiked up a mountain to see this undervisited and atmospheric site (given  climb). Pinara has not been excavated.  We explored numerous Lycian tombs carved into mountain.  The temple of Aphrodite had heart shaped columns. 

Letoon  (near Fethiye) - A mound of columns near temples of goddess Leto and Apollo. 

Xanthos (near Fethiye)  Harpy Monument and Sarcophagi date to 480 BC.  Xanthos was a religous and administrative center of Lycia.

Ephesus - The Celsus Library.  Ephesus flourished as the center of worship for goddess Artemis.  St. Paul wrote his famous letter to the Ephesians after his controversial visit where he spoke against worshipping idols.

Ephesus - This site had it all...the marble latrines near the local  brothel!

Bergama  (Pergamum)- Acropolis and the Temple of Trajan.  Bergama was a powerful kingdom from the 4th to 2nd centuries.

Bergama - Temple of Trajan.  Temple of Zeus and Athina were also at this site but not as well restored.

Bergama - Hospital complex within ancient  healing center and asclepion (medical school) whose library rivalled that of Alexandria in Egypt.  One false step from above (field) and you would need a hospital!
