Turkey - Cappadocia

29 October, 1999 - 15 November, 1999

Pigeon Valley - South east of Ankara and almost in the center of Turkey lies the Cappadocia region.  It is famous for its fantastic natural  rock formations of its valleys.

Derinkuya - This underground city is one of many that people carved  out of the volcanic stone. Since 4th century, it provided shelter and protection during the many sieges.

Ihlara Valley - In addition to underground cities, people also carved churches and monateries out of the rock.  This remote canyon is full of carved and painted Byzantine Churches as shown in rock in background.

Goreme Valley - Indigo Carpets
What would a trip to Turkey be without a carpet purchase?  We  bought this beautiful Prayer rug.  It is 40-50 years old.

If you are going to ship one, you might as well ship two, right?!  When you  come over for cocktails, this carpet will dazzle you!  It is 40-50 years old too!

Indigo Carpets.  A congratulatory hug from Ruth Lockwood of Indigo Carpets.   We bonded over the Aussie - French World Rugby Match as Ruth is from Down Under.   She spent 4 hours educating us on carpets and coached us to buying these.  I have nicknamed her "Ruth, Purveyor of Truth!"given her fabulous selling style.
