Short list of issues to check for troubles connecting to The World's modems:
Terminal programs such as HyperTerm or ZTerm, if you use them, should be set to "8-N-1" (8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit). Hardware flow control (DTR) should be enabled, software flow control (XON/XOFF) disabled.
We suggest terminal type "vt100" ("ansi", "vt102", or "vt220" may also work, depending on the program) if you are prompted for your terminal type at login. In any case, your terminal program likely supports all vt100 features; use "vt102" or "vt220" if you're sure your terminal program emulates those newer models which can update their screens a little faster.
