Awakening

I awaken
heavy with the first sunlight
in every muscle
my mind on fire, soaring,
still giddy
even with a few hours of sleep
separating me now
from you, from
the brightness of last evening
I gaze at the white ceiling
and struggle to lift my body,
exhausted,
exalted
—I've fallen in love
and I can't get up.
