D-Projects has been a 15 year long expedition to
carry out a longitudinal study of both analog and
digital projects across a variety of disciplines.
The primary goal has been to learn how to improve
the viability of digital projects by identifying
and sharing sustainable strategies.
The expedition has resulted in a number of academic
publications and presentations (see the list below).
More importantly, it has resulted in the establishment
of an innovative, hybrid analog/digital archive containing
records about thousands of projects around the world.
The archive currently includes over 200 linear feet of
hardcopy files and over 100 gigabytes of digital data.
The newest focus of D-Projects has become documenting
and contributing to the process of transition as many older,
well established projects begin to translate and redefine
themsevles within virtual worlds such as SecondLife.
The new Gates to SecondLife project is a continuation of
D-Projects designed to identify and provide access to projects in that 3D environment.
The next major goal of this D-Projects will be to establish
a non-profit foundation with a significant endowment to
support the protection and continuation of this work.
