| We flew into Rome and took the train
to Spoleto, in Umbria. Spoleto is very steep. It was amazing to see women in high-heel, pointy-toed, thin-soled, girl-shoes (song by the Chenille Sisters) navigating the cobblestoned climb. Sometimes you'd hear a little "ding-ding" and there would be a bike behind you coming down those steps! Spoleto has truffles, a Roman theatre, and very friendly folks. It is an interesting mix of very medieval and very modern - Internet access was easy. |

The grandest thing in Spoleto is a 14th century
bridge built ontop of a Roman aqueduct. It spans a deep valley right
outside of town. Look at the photo on the left. That shows the right
side of the bridge, the walkway is on the left. In the very center of the
bridge is a dot - which is a window in the bridge. The photo on the
left shows Tom in that window and the papal fortress La Rocca (used to
be a prison, now a museum).
Next we went to Ravenna! |
