This technique uses random lengths of yarn, tied together and wound in a ball. Knit or crochet the item, keeping all the yarn tails on one side and the tails are left loose - not woven in. This makes a reversible garment , calm on the smooth side and furry on the side with tails.

I made a modular sweater using mohair
and wool. The body of the sweater is double crochet and the sleeves
are knit. I think this technique looks much better in crochet than
knit, at least using this colorway. If I knit another magic ball
sweater, I'll choose colors that are all in the same color family.
