The sky was mostly clear across southern New England this morning, with some
clouds moving east across southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts.
Temperatures at 4 am ranged from around 10° in the colder spots across the
interior, up to around 20° toward Cape Cod and the islands. Wind chills were
mostly in the single digits above zero, with some of the higher terrain
locations, like Worcester, with values in the single digits below zero. Dry
and cold weather will remain entrenched across southern New England through
the rest of this work week. The cause of this persistent cold air is a nearly
stationary low pressure across the province of Labrador in eastern Canada, and
a strong dome of high pressure building slowly across the upper midwest. This
will yield temperatures remaining below normal both by day and night through
Saturday morning.
